About Shriners Hospital for Children

The story of Shriners Hospitals .  .  .  .  .  Shriners Hospital for Children

NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO WALK ALONE
This is the philosophy of Shriners Hospitals for children, a 22 hospital pediatric health care system that provides excellent.  All care and services are provided regardless of the patients' or their families' ability to pay  for the orthopedic problems or burn injuries.

Since 1922, Shriners Hospitals have been helping children.  All care and services are provided regardless of he patients' or their families' ability to pay.   Shriners Hospitals are substantially funded through the Shriners Hospitals for Children endowment fund, which is maintained through gifts, bequests and contributions.  Additional income for Shriners Hospitals is provided by an annual hospital assessment paid by every Shriner, as well as designated charitable fund-raising events administered by the Shrines.

The first Shriners Hospitals, in what would grow into an international network, was opened in Shreveport, LA, in 1922.  Today, Shriners  Hospitals comprise 18 orthopaedic hospitals , three burn hospitals, and one hospital providing orthapaedic, burn and spinal cord injury care.

The 22 Shriners Hospitals -- 20  in the United States and one each in Canada and Mexico -- provide expert orthopaedic and burn care to children regardless of their ability to pay.  All children, up to their 18th birthday, may be eligible for treatment at a Shriners Hoppital if, in the opinion of the hospitals chief of staff, the child has an orthopaedic or burn condition that can be helped.  Shriners Hospitals accept all treat children regardless of race, religion or relationship to a Shriner.
